You Are Here Too

You Are Here Too (2024) is an intimately scaled continuation of Vermeulen’s sculptural exploration of

perception and fleeting visual phenomena. Presented by Art Fix at PAN Amsterdam, this limited edition (which sold out immediately) features uniquely layered coloured resin pieces, each paired with an individually programmed light. This ensures that every sculpture is distinct in its interaction of colour and light. Expanding on Vermeulen’s ongoing artistic research into the elusive “dot” phenomenon, each piece offers its own dynamic interpretation, inviting viewers into a personal and meditative dialogue with the object.

The sculptures are created by layering differently coloured resin forms within one another. By sanding the surfaces, the translucency of each form is carefully controlled, affecting how the sculpture interacts with coloured light.

The blending of colours happens through both additive and subtractive mixing. When lit from behind, the pigments in the resin selectively absorb certain wavelengths, intensifying the colours. At the same time, the overlapping translucent layers allow the colours to mix optically. Although the sculpture itself is physically static, it responds dynamically to changes in lighting.
